ILOILO CITY, May 15 (PNA) -- Within the three days canvassing of votes, Liberal Party incumbent candidate Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. consistently led in the gubernatorial race against United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) challenger 4th district Cong. Ferjenel Biron.
Biron already conceded defeat Tuesday morning after seeing a wide margin of votes of more than 74, 000 from 24 out of 43 towns in Iloilo.
In 63 percent completion result as of 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Defensor garnered 314, 621 votes over Biron with 239, 386. The independent challenger Serapio Camposano had 3, 687 votes.
The governor’s running mate Raul C. Tupas also led the race with 322, 154 votes over that of former Vice Gov. Rolex Suplico and Domingo Pancrudo with 183, 467 and 4, 809 votes, respectively.
On Tuesday, the Iloilo Provincial Board of Canvassers has proclaimed incumbent 5th district Cong. Niel Tupas, Jr. as winner with 120, 079 votes over Board Member Jett Rojas who ran for congressman with 50, 439 votes.
Other leading congressional candidates are Vice Gov. Richard Garin, 1st district; Pavia Mayor Arcadio Gorriceta, 2nd district; and the governor’s son incumbent Arthur Defensor Jr., 3rd district.
The seat for 4th district is still at stake with a close fight between former Gov. Niel Tupas, Sr. and Biron’s youngest brother incumbent Board Member Hernan Biron, Jr.
Also, other LP leading candidates in BMs are Dennis Valencia and San Joaquin Mayor Ninfa Garin, 1st district; incumbent BMs June Mondejar and Demetrio Sonza, 2nd district; incumbent BMs Licurgo Tirador and Emmanuel Gallar, 3rd district; San Enrique Mayor Mediatrix Fernandez and Mitch Monfort Bautista, 4th district; and UGYON incumbent candidate Nielo Tupas and UNA candidate Jesus Salcedo; 5th district.
